Claire Farrell has been working within Freith CEC School both as part of a wider collaborative primary schools project on Growth Mindsets and more recently in running a series of small nurture groups for identified pupils in school.
We began working with Nurture My Potential alongside a number of schools in the Marlow Liaison group focusing on 'Growth Mindset' and learning. This involved providing teacher training sessions, parent training sessions and teaching assistant training. It also included working in class leading a 6-week Growth Mindset project in our KS1 class, providing further CPD for the class teacher to be disseminated through the school. This 6-week programme was fully resourced and the training notes provided were thorough and easy to use.
AS a result of this project, the ethos of the school began to change rapidly. The resilience levels in pupils who had previously been lacking in confidence began to grow, penguins of perseverance helping to remind them to keep trying and not be put off by mistakes. The staff were inspired by the training and the resources and are more able to support pupils in their learning quests. The parents were impressed with how the Growth Mindset programme could support not just the social and emotional literacy but the academic learning of their children. As a result of this project we have become a fully committed growth Mindset school are looking to fully embed the ethos so brilliantly modelled by Claire throughout the school.
AS a result of the fantastic work produced by Claire within the first project, I asked her to plan and provide some small group programmes for vulnerable pupils in our school. Claire has produced some fantastic 6 week programmes, each one carefully tailored to the needs of the different groups of children. These have been extremely successful and all the pupils have benefitted hugely from their time with Claire has provided them with excellent strategies for calming and understanding their emotions and with kinaesthetic resources to remind them of their learning throughout the week. The pupils who worked with her on their behaviour have noticeably improved and the incidents of them being sent to the headteacher for poor behaviour rapidly diminished after beginning working with Claire.
Claire is a fantastic role model and works in a calm and thoughtful manner with all our pupils. She is having a hugely beneficial impact on the pupils that she works with and therefore on the school as a whole. I would recommend both the projects in the Nurture My Potential programme and Claire Farrell without any hesitation and am extremely grateful for having has to the opportunity to work with her.
